About this tool
Splitting a PDF usually means one of two quite different things, so both are here. Extracting produces a single new document containing just the pages you chose, which is what you want when sending one section of a long report or removing pages before sharing something. Splitting into single pages produces one file per page, which is what you want when a scanner has handed you a stack of unrelated documents in one file. Pages are chosen with the notation you would use when printing: a list, a range, or a mix such as 1-3, 7, 12- where an open-ended range runs to the end. The order you type is the order you get, so writing 3, 1, 2 genuinely reorders the pages. Because the whole thing runs in your browser, the document never leaves your device, which matters given how often the reason for removing pages is that they contain something you do not want to send.
Frequently asked questions
How do I write the page selection?
Like a print dialog. Single pages as 5, ranges as 2-8, and combinations as 1-3, 7, 12-. Leaving a range open, such as 12-, means from that page to the end. Leave the field empty to select every page.
Can I extract PDF pages rather than split the whole file?
Type the pages you want — 1-3, 7, 12 — and you get just those, as one document or as separate files. To separate PDF pages entirely, ask for every page. If what you actually want is to delete pages from PDF documents and keep the rest in one file, the page reorder tool does that with the pages on screen, which is easier when you are choosing by eye rather than by number.
What is the difference between extracting and splitting?
Extracting gives you one new PDF containing your chosen pages. Splitting gives you a separate PDF for each page. Use extract to pull out a section, and split when one file actually contains several unrelated documents.
Can I reorder pages while extracting?
Yes. Pages appear in the order you list them, so entering 3, 1, 2 produces a document in that order. Repeated page numbers are ignored rather than duplicated.
Is my document uploaded?
No. The PDF is read into your browser and processed there, so it never reaches a server. That is worth caring about here in particular, since removing pages before sharing usually means the removed pages are sensitive.
Does splitting reduce quality or break links?
Pages are copied intact, so text stays selectable and images keep their resolution. Internal links and bookmarks that point at pages outside your selection cannot survive, since their destination is no longer in the document.
