Count forward or back a number of working days and see where you land.
- Pick the date you are counting from
- Say how many working days — negative counts backwards
- Add any public holidays you observe, one date per line
Counting starts the day after the date above.
About this tool
Thirty working days from today is not a date anybody can do in their head, and it moves depending on which day of the week you start on. That is what this answers. It counts forward or backwards. Negative numbers walk back, which is how you answer "what is the last day I can post this" rather than "when does this arrive". The start date is never counted as day one. One working day from a Friday is the following Monday, not the Friday itself — that off-by-one is why deadline calculators so often disagree with each other, so it is stated here rather than left to be discovered. Public holidays are yours to give it. They differ by country, by region and by year, and several of them move; baking in one country's list would produce a number that is quietly wrong for everybody else, which is the worst kind of wrong because nothing on screen says so. Paste the dates you observe and they are skipped along with the weekends, and the tool tells you which ones it actually used. It also tells you how many calendar days you crossed to get there, which is usually more than people expect.
Frequently asked questions
Does the start date count as the first working day?
No. One working day from a Friday is the following Monday. Counting the start date as day one is the off-by-one that makes deadline calculators disagree with each other, so this one begins the day after and says so.
Which public holidays does it know about?
None, on purpose. They differ by country, by region and by year, and several move around. A built-in list that is wrong for where you are would be invisible — so paste the dates you observe and they are skipped along with weekends, and the tool lists the ones it used.
Can I count backwards?
Yes — use a negative number. That answers "what is the last day I can send this to arrive in time", which is usually the more urgent question and the one nothing else on the page will do for you.
What counts as a working day?
Monday to Friday. That is the assumption almost every contract and notice period is written against. If your working week is different, the honest workaround for now is to add the days you do not work as skip dates.
How is this different from the date difference tool?
That one counts the working days between two dates you already know. This one knows one date and a number of working days, and finds the other date. Same weekends, opposite direction — and they are linked to each other on both pages.
