Clock-in and clock-out for each day, minus unpaid breaks, added up. Out comes the total in hours and minutes, the same total in decimal hours, and what it is worth if you give it an hourly rate. Both forms of the total, because payroll wants 7.75 and a person wants 7 h 45 m — they are the same number, and almost nobody converts between them correctly under time pressure. That conversion is most of why this tool gets searched for at all. Everything is kept in whole minutes until the very last division. Adding up five shifts of 8.6166 hours drifts before the week is out; adding whole minutes does not, so the total is exact and gets rounded once rather than five times. Overnight shifts work. A shift ending before it started has crossed midnight — 22:00 to 06:00 is eight hours, not minus sixteen — and it is flagged on the row so you can check that is what you meant. Times are read forgivingly: "9:00", "0900", "9am" and "9" all mean the same thing. A time card is transcribed from a paper sheet or from memory, and a tool that rejects "930" because it wanted a colon is arguing with somebody who already knows what they meant.
